On Saturday, November 15, British School of Chicago families volunteered at Kids Day at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. A number of students and their parents spent the day repacking bulk products into individual and family size portions and labeling the contents for distribution to the community.

"It was a fun event," said Mel Johnson, a parent volunteer who attended with her daughter Alexandra. "Hopefully we will get to do this again next year, as we have been able to do these past three years."

The BSC group labeled and boxed over 13,000 cans of pinto beans during their shift! We remain impressed by our families' commitment to the Chicago community, and we greatly appreciate those who donate their time to local charity events and philanthropies.

From the Greater Chicago Food Depository website:

Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank — a nonprofit food distribution and training center that provides food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community.

The Food Depository, founded in 1979, makes a daily impact across Cook County with a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, mobile programs, children’s programs, older adult programs and innovative responses that address the root causes of hunger. Last year, the Food Depository distributed 67 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy products and meat, the equivalent of 154,000 meals every day.
