On Thursday, Jim Plunkett Cole, aka Jim Gump, visited The British International School of Charlotte as part of his quest to inspire and motivate children towards a lifelong love of being healthy and active. The students loved the opportunity to be physically active and enjoyed the House Challenge of running 5K alongside Jim to help him on his way towards meeting his daily 17 mile target. He told us that BISC students had covered the greatest distance with him than any other school to date!
“Jim Gump is so amazing and awesome!” Cyrus, Year 1
“He told us about his adventures in running. So, he basically runs for charity and motivates everybody to be healthy.” Simon, Year 7
“He motivated us to run more. We ran 5K with him and he told us awesome stories about getting off the couch and running.” Grace, Year 9
Jim started his journey in the States on October 1 last year, with the goal of running 20,000 miles throughout America over three years. Jim will engage with thousands of children in schools along the route. In addition to his focus on encouraging children towards a lifelong love of being healthy and active, Jim is passionate about helping students reflect on the importance of embracing and celebrating who they are. As an adult with Asperger Syndrome, Jim understands on a personal level how to overcome and appreciate his differences and to see them as a positive.
Students in Year 11 documented his visit in movie format. Please click on this link to find out more.
