A Global Gold Medal for our Students

The 2016 Global Games have come to a close, leaving its own legacy of good times, friendships and competition

Last week, The Global Games North America took place at Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida. Nord Anglia students from across North America came together in the spirit of competition and friendship, and left with a lifetime of memories.

While the host school Windermere took home the overall title, The British International School of Charlotte's 4 participants certainly came to play and left with some serious hardware! BISC's Grace,  Will, Simon and Ayush represented us well under Mrs. Moffat's stellar coaching. Grace showed her true leadership skills and ambitious nature by competing in volleyball, sand volleyball, tennis, doubles tennis, high jump, long jump and soccer.  She even played goalie for the boys soccer team and took home medals in mixed doubles tennis, sand volleyball and soccer!  Will competed on the soccer team - a sport that he doesn't normally play competitively.  You wouldn't think that a competition such as the Global Games would be the moment to jump on a team for a sport that you don't know much about, but Will showed us that with true grit you can go after anything.  He also come in 4th in 100m sprint - so, so close to a medal, but with dozens of competitors running the event, we're so thrilled with his performance.  Simon medaled in doubles tennis alongside Grace, but perhaps equally as important he rode his first roller coaster - The Hulk at Islands of Adventure!  Ambition and setting goals doesn't just happen on a field or in the classroom - sometimes it's confronting the ominous roller coaster in front of you (literally and figuratively!).  And, Ayush represented BISC on the basketball court, showing us some sweet moves of which we were previously unaware!  He also stepped up and showed us that leadership doesn't just happen on the field, but also on the sidelines making sure that his teammates and friends stayed motivated win or lose, keeping spirits high with his humor and wit.    

We are immensely proud of our BISC team and while the Games are centered around sport, to Nord Anglia and our students they represent so much more. The unique event brings our “Be Ambitious” philosophy to life as students reach outside their comfort zones, participating and competing beyond what they’re normally accustomed to. And when students, faculty and staff come together as they did during the Games, the power of 11 schools within our North American region shine – imagine the global reach we feel with the full combined power of all 43!
