'Cakeography'

In IGCSE Geography we like to do things a little differently!

Earlier this week the students were set the challenge of making an edible coastline.  That’s right an EDIBLE coastline! We watched it physically erode in front of an audience to demonstrate coastal erosion and the geographical features that this creates. In their explanations of the formation of a notch, cave, arch, stack, stump and wave cut platform they had to also include the methods of erosion that would have created these features. These are attrition, corrosion, hydraulic action and abrasion. (Geography technical language we are learning)

Getting hands on and being actively involved in creating the learning experience is something that we believe gives the students a greater depth and understanding of the processes involved.  Yahya in Yr9 commented about his experience today

'It's much more interesting doing it this way, because it really sticks in your head. This type of activity helps you remember something forever, much more than a presentation.'

Yahya was also the baker responsible for one of the most impressive cakes I have ever seen, it also tasted great!!! He was very popular today with the other students as there is quite a lot of cake let over!!!
