Starting Right

2015/6 School year is setting up to be one the best yet.   

Today has been a lovely first day of school. Very quickly everything settled down and every class was off to a great start with the right focus, learning!

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to everyone. Welcome to our returning families as well as our new families that are at the beginning of their journey with the British International School of Charlotte. I would like to welcome two new staff members that you may have seen around school. We have Kim Bari supporting the learning in 1st Grade (Y2) and Maggie Milford assisting in our 3 year old Pre-K (F1). I am sure everyone will reach out to them and make them feel very welcomed.

Whilst Emma Lundy is not new to our school she is new to her role as the Leader of the Primary Phase and the Core Leadership Team and I would like to welcome her to this exciting opportunity. Also, Nicky Jasper has returned for the fall term as a floating learning assistant and after school care assistant.

We have been busy over the summer preparing for this moment and some new developments have moved forward that will greatly enhance our school. We have invested substantially in the school IT infrastructure with a new state of the art wireless system and faster internet speed. We have even factored into the equation parent access to the network. If you need to access Wi-Fi while around school you now can via the Guest channel that is open to all. We have also been working very hard on implementing a new Information Management System called iSams. This system is currently being used by staff and we will be rolling out shortly the parent portal element that will allow you to access your child’s details and records, school documentation, calendar and email. I know that there are a lot of dates and events being scheduled and all of this will be available in one place via the portal. Kipp Parrish is leading on this and will be running a series of workshops to introduce you to this new system. Look for emails from her related to parent workshops in about two weeks.

We have also been working hard to secure a partnership with Earth Fare which is now our provider of healthy school lunches. Should you wish to try the school lunch please contact Veronda Schools on the front desk and she will talk you through the ordering process. Whilst we ask that you eventually make a commitment to school lunches for the term, we are opening up the order process for the next week for you to try the lunches before making the commitment. Mrs. Schools will be sending out an email concerning the trial week.
Well, it’s one day down and a whole year of opportunities ahead of us.
