Academic excellence

Academic excellence at BIS Hanoi is about every child achieving their best.

Our well-rounded, enriched curriculum is innovative and global in scope, guiding students from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through primary, their IGCSEs, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programmed (IBDP).

At every stage of their learning journey, your child will receive the perfect balance of personalised support and challenge. They’ll also enjoy outstanding collaborations with The Juilliard School, UNICEF, and MIT, and build strong relationships with our highly qualified teachers, who inspire and motivate every day.

This ensures our students get consistently fantastic results. Our four-year IBDP points score of 35 is higher than the global average. And in 2022, 61% of our IBDP students were awarded the bilingual Diploma, considerably higher than the 27% world average.

Committed to your child’s academic success, we offer several specialised support services. Our university guidance counsellors, for example, work with our older students and their families to explore higher education and career pathways.

Our graduates go on to study at prestigious top 100 universities around the world, including UCLA, King's College London, the University of Toronto, Yonsei, and NUS.

World's best teachers

Our students deserve the best, which is why we recruit the finest British and international teachers from across the globe. Every single one of our exceptional educators has UK-recognised teaching qualifications. Many have Master’s degrees, too.

With the exception of our world language specialists, all our teachers are native English speakers. Your child will immerse themselves in the rhythm and flow of the English language, ensuring they develop the highest standard of written and spoken expressions. And if your child needs extra support, our dedicated English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme will quickly get them up to speed.

Our school is a place of continuous learning, and that applies to our teachers as well as our students. On the award-winning Nord Anglia University platform, staff study hundreds of courses each year and share innovations with fellow educators across the world.

In school, our teachers set reflective targets and take part in continual professional development sessions twice a week. They also actively research themes, methodologies, and techniques in line with our Statements of Excellence, guaranteeing our students are always engaged and motivated.

To provide the right level of care and attention, our dedicated educational support team help our teachers personalise each child’s learning journey. Through the innovative use of data, student surveys, and focus groups, we monitor each child’s progress, identify challenges, and address theoretical and practical gaps in their knowledge.

Exceptional learning experiences
An exceptional education is one that extends beyond the classroom. At BIS Hanoi, we offer a depth and breadth of outstanding experiences – from global trips and community outreach projects to sports, art, and STEAM – that cultivate the skills and knowledge our students need for the future.

Exceptional learning experiences

We believe in a holistic, well-rounded education that’s packed with opportunities for each student to do what they love, make exciting new discoveries, and grow their talents.

Our collaborations with The Juilliard School and MIT spark our students’ creativity in art, music, dance, drama, and STEAM. Through in-school challenges, an annual visit to MIT, and specialised training for our STEAM teachers, our children develop the skills they need for the 21st century.

We’ll encourage your child to stand up for what they believe in and drive real change, too. One way they’ll do this is through our partnership with UNICEF, which will challenge them to make a difference on the international stage. They’ll also connect, collaborate, and tackle themed projects with fellow Nord Anglia students on our Global Campus learning platform.

Every year, our students go on local, national, and international trips, including a Nord Anglia citizenship expedition to Tanzania, which build their confidence and leadership skills, and open their eyes to the beauty and challenges facing our world. We also offer more than 90 co-curricular clubs and activities. From battle of the bands, baking and basketball to yoga, robotics and international studies, your child will follow their interests and discover new passions.

In everything our students do, we encourage them to act with integrity, care, and respect. Our bespoke wellbeing programme makes sure our students are safe, happy, and supported, too. Here, we’ll nurture your child’s sense of identity, build resilience, and empower them to look after their physical and mental health.

Our social purpose
At BIS Hanoi, your child will embrace our culture of supporting others. They’ll stand up for the causes they believe in and make a real difference locally and globally through hands-on, practical projects.

Our social purpose

From an early age, we challenge our children to consider how they can make the world better place.

Community outreach projects show our students there’s more to success than academic results, as they demonstrate their character and values by taking action in support of others. Our students have volunteered for the Red Cross, organised concerts for medical professionals, and renovated a playroom and playground at a local orphanage.

Students of all ages raise money and awareness for good causes, including the Hy Vong School for Disabled Children, School On The Boat, and Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. These experiences demonstrate our students’ empathy, compassion, and determination, as well as strengthening their university applications.

Life-changing experiences around the world – including our expedition to Arusha in Tanzania – foster a strong sense of global citizenship and social responsibility, too. Every year, a group of students take part in workshops, debates, and influencing opportunities at the UN High Level Political Forum in New York, before returning home to inspire their peers.

In school, our Primary and Secondary Student Councils lead the way. As well as giving every student a voice, our councils organise a variety of innovative projects throughout the year. These include activities to boost mental health and raise awareness of international issues.

The Nord Anglia Education family

We’re incredibly proud of the vibrant multicultural community we’ve created at BIS Hanoi. Home to families from more than 30 different countries, our school is a place where uniqueness is celebrated, and everyone feels like they belong.

We work hard to create lasting connections with you, our parents. Our Friends of BIS parent group takes the lead, getting involved in fun events – like our International Week and the Britcham Charity Fun Run – and organising activities that reflect our school values, like our uniform recycling initiative.

Our open-door parent policy ensures you’ll play a big part in your child’s learning journey. You’ll join us for our welcome back event at the start of the year and hear from our principal at regular coffee mornings, too. We also run presentations and workshops – covering topics like teaching techniques, assessment methods, and child psychology – which will give you an insight into school life.

Our House system brings our student community together, creating strong bonds across the year groups. Named after cities in Vietnam – Hanoi, Hue, Dalat, and Saigon – your child will take part in exciting sporting and academic events each term. Our students wear their House shirts with pride!
