Council of International Schools (CIS)

In June 2017, we were officially awarded full accreditation status with the Council of International Schools (CIS).

CIS is recognised by Ministries and Departments of Education around the world, demonstrating our school’s commitment to high quality international education. This confirms that BIS Hanoi meets internationally-agreed and recognised standards, and develops global citizens with the qualities and skills necessary today.

All CIS schools share the following ideals:

Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is a world-renowned accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States. It works closely with the Office of Overseas Schools under the US Department of State. WASC is responsible for accrediting public and private schools, colleges, and universities in the United States and international schools in the Asia-Pacific region.

BIS Hanoi has been fully accredited by WASC since August 2017. Being accredited means our campus has met rigorous standards for quality, capacity, and effectiveness. Accreditation is periodically reaffirmed through a comprehensive review process that includes an institutional self-study, external review, and site visit at least once every 10 years.

The accreditation:

FOBISIA

Since 2015, we've been a member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA), an alliance of more than 50 of the best British international schools in the region. All member schools are closely scrutinised on application and have to meet an extensive range of quality standards to be accepted.

Being a member of FOBISIA offers our students opportunities to take part in a variety of cross-school international competitions, fixtures, and events, such as the FOBISIA Games and the FOBISIA Performing Arts Festival. Other FOBISIA events include community service projects, a Model United Nations conference, a primary maths competition, and a drama festival.

FOBISIA also organises conferences where teachers from across the region meet to share good practice, swap ideas, and receive professional training.

There is also a FOBISIA teacher professional development executive committee. The committee arranges for university lecturers from the UK to train teachers from around the region. This helps to ensure our teachers benefit from the latest educational thinking and provides opportunities for them to study for further qualifications.

Cambridge Assessment International Examinations (CAIE)

Our international IGCSE qualifications are fully accredited by the Cambridge Assessment International Education Examinations Board, part of the University of Cambridge.

Cambridge qualifications are accepted and valued by universities around the world, as they equip students with the skills they need to succeed. Universities value the independent research, critical thinking, and deep subject knowledge that IGCSE qualifications develop. CAIE works with universities when revising their qualifications, therefore receiving expert advice to make sure students are prepared to succeed at university and beyond.

International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)

Since 2016, the BIS Hanoi has been authorised by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

The IBDP is the world’s premium post-16 educational offering. Both academically challenging and personally enriching, this qualification nurtures internationally-minded students to become critical thinkers, service-oriented, and highly skilled across a breadth of areas.

As an IB World School, BIS Hanoi is evaluated at least once every five years to verify that the standards and practices of the IB programme are upheld.
