Dear Parents,
It has been another very busy week in the Secondary school, notably including an international award trip last weekend alongside a Model United Nations Conference hosted on campus, more about which you will read about further down in the newsletter.
Another highlight this week was the showcase event that ran on Thursday evening celebrating the exceptional work that has gone on in the Group 6 IB subjects this year. Group 6 comprises the arts subjects, and at BIS Hanoi, this includes music, theatre, and visual arts.
The focus of these subjects is creativity, critical reflection, and self-exploration. In our view, education in the arts has deep and long-term benefits for our students. The reflection that occurs in these subjects helps us to better understand our own lives and identities and to respect the identities of others. It also teaches us critical skills such as expression, movement, and discipline. In a world where innovative ideas are needed to deal with complex problems, we increasingly need to tap into our creativity in order to think through and solve those problems.
We are fortunate at BIS to have a strong arts provision led by a dedicated team of teachers who deliver processes that help students produce exceptional outcomes. We continue to be supported by our partners at Juilliard through this wonderful process of learning through creativity. The quality of the final pieces by students in music, visual arts, and drama this week is evidence of the outstanding work that is being done in the classrooms.
I hope you enjoy some pictures from the event from the showcase event on Thursday evening.

BIS Model United Nations Conference 2023
On Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March, our school hosted its first ever in-person Model United Nations conference. This built on the success of last year’s virtual edition and was a great success that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Model United Nations is a brilliant opportunity for participants to collaborate with others from different places and backgrounds, in turn developing collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills.
