Our BIS Hanoi team is excited and ready to compete in the FOBISIA U15!
Day 1:
It was an exciting start to the games. The day opened with a flag-bearer march. This hyped the team up for their swimming meet. It was a successful morning, not only for the medals (10 bronze and 1 silver for the boys, and 12 bronze and 8 silver medals for the girls), but more importantly for the grit and determination shown by all swimmers in the pool.
After a quick lunch, the BIS Lionhearts headed to the stadium for a jam-packed afternoon of athletics, however this was cut short due to a rainstorm. Some highlights of events which were completed. Clean sweep of golds across the high jump event, and 2 golds in the girls 300 meters. At the time the rain hit the meet the lionhearts had 2 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze for the boys and the girls 4 gold. 2 silvers and 3 bronze. The rest of the athletics events will be completed tomorrow weather permitting.
Some tired students have been enjoying socializing with the other schools at dinner and they are looking forward to tomorrow's competitions.
Day 2: Girls football, boys basketball
An early morning start had the 800-meter and relay students compete in their athletic events. The girls finished with gold and silver, and the boy's was bronze.
In the relay 1 silver in boys 800 and 2 bronze for the girls. The last events of athletics will be completed tomorrow, weather permitting.
The girls got underway with the Football at 9am. They got off to a shaky start and ended up losing 5-0 in the first game. The girls learned a lot from this game and took to the field in the second game like a completely new team. They steadied themselves, played with a lot more confidence, and finished the game with a 3-0 win. The girls carried this confidence into their last group game and secured another win (2-0). This win meant they were through to the final and had to play Regents Pattaya once again, whom they had previously lost to earlier in the morning. The girls played with sheer determination, which got them over the line (1-0). An outstanding final performance from all the girls.
The boys had a slightly earlier start of 8:30 a.m., and this short turnaround after the athletics did not help the boys in their slow start against a very strong St. Andrew's team. They started the day with a 25-12 loss, but that was the last time they lost, as they went on to win three games and draw one. The highlight was an emphatic 27-7 win against Trail in the final game, securing them the bronze medal. The final result of the tournament was extremely close; the boys were level with Regents for the silver medal on points, head-to-head, and points difference but unfortunately conceded more points on the day.
It was a great day 2, and we are looking forward to the boys' football and girls' basketball.
Go Lionhearts!
Day 3
The last day of the competition was an exciting day with final athletics events, boys' football, and girls' basketball. The girls' first game was a tough start, and they lost their first game against Regents Pattaya. The following games they won gave the girls the opportunity to play in the gold medal match. It was a closely contested match; the girls earned the silver medal for the tournament.
In the football tournament, the boys had to play in rain and shine. The tournament was interrupted by lightning storms. The boys showed perseverance throughout the tournament. The games were very close, and the boys finished fifth at the end of the day.
At the gala dinner, the results for swimming and athletics were given. The final athletics medals were handed out, and the total medals for the boys were 4 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze, and for the girls, it was 9 gold, 3 silver, and 11 bronze.
The Lionhearts team received the 3rd place trophies for swimming and athletics.
Students enjoyed their last evening with Thai cultural dancing and socializing with their new friends.
The team had a very good tournament and showed great team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Well done, Lionhearts!
