BIS Hanoi students had been training hard from the start of the academic year for various sports events and competitions. Last weekend, both Primary and Secondary, had a busy yet fun and fabulous weekend with different sports events with other international schools.
On Saturday, November 5th, BIS hosted the annual HAC middle school girls basketball tournament. It was a day of hard fighting, friendly competition, and fun. BIS, UNIS, Concordia, St Paul’s, Hanoi International School, Reigate, and Olympia all sent a variety of competitive and festival teams. The atmosphere was excellent, with players, coaches, and supporters enjoying three bustling basketball courts, as well as some refreshments from Joma!
The BIS festival team showed some of all the skills they had been developing this year, enjoying playing each of the other festival teams twice. Throughout the day there was a significant and noticeable improvement in the off-the-ball movement and spacing, with players regularly getting open underneath the basket. 2 wins against UNIS secured a solid second place.
The BIS competitive team maintained their winning streak, and their undefeated season was capped off with some silverware, as they won all of their matches and the competition (despite attempting to give Mr Nichols a heart attack in the first two minutes of the final against UNIS). They showed some real quality throughout the day, implementing off ball screens to create open shots and making them, but more importantly, they showed real determination and tenacity in defence.
A massive congratulations to all of those who were involved. The girls should be extremely proud of themselves; their hard work this season has not gone unnoticed. See you all on the football field!
Meanwhile, the school’s swim squad enjoyed a swim meet at UNIS on both Saturday and Sunday. Eleven students, both primary and secondary, represented BIS Hanoi at the event, which involved 18 international schools from Vietnam and other countries. For some of our students, it was their first time competing in a big sporting event, but that didn’t stop them from going out of their comfort zone and trying their hardest. Some students won their heats, and most of them beat their times. They also showed great team spirit and fantastic sportsmanship. Let’s go BIS!
