Dear Parents,
Starting from next Monday, BIS Hanoi welcomes the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Western Academy of Schools and Colleges (WASC) to visit us virtually as part of our international reaccreditation.
The reaccreditation is the first of two evaluation visits over the coming 18 months. Our evaluators – Martin Kneath (CIS) and Dawn Rock (WASC) - will be viewing lessons and speaking to members of our community virtually during the week. The evaluators will be focusing on:
We view reaccreditation as an opportunity for reflection and renewal based on the highest of global educational standards, and a crucial way to benchmark and lever school improvement. Unlike some accrediting bodies, CIS and WASC are highly supportive of their schools’ personal journeys, seeing accreditation as a partnership towards ongoing school improvement rather than about adherence and inspection. I therefore expect the week to be a positive and constructive experience for all members of the community. Thank you in advance to those parents, students, teachers, and support staff involved in the process.

In keeping with our current topic ‘Les loisirs et les sports’, Year 12 French Ab Initio were keen to learn about popular French sports. They have been reading articles and watching videos about the Olympic Games which will be held in Paris in 2024. They were particularly impressed with how the Opening Ceremony will take place across the river Seine.
As part of their research, they have also looked into popular sports such as fencing and pétanque. They even got to go outside to play a game of pétanque, practicing their prepositions and recapping their colours and commands in French.

As a preparation for IBDP next year, Year 11 learned about the meaning of ‘text’ in literature and language. After reading a novel named ‘A dwarf launches a little ball’, students analysed text in the way of representing the reality in a book in depth. After that, the definition of ‘text’ has been extended as students explored the meaning of text in advertisement, movie, poem and public service announcement. Year 11 students successfully engaged in a guided inquiry lesson and increased their motivation of learning IBDP Korean in the future.
