Welcome back to the start of a new term and a new year – let’s hope that 2021 will bring peace, health and happiness to every member of our BIS community.
On the final day of Term 1, we held the Principal’s Assembly. This is a termly occasion, which sees the entire school come together, to celebrate a range of events that have taken place during the preceding weeks and months.
One of the main features of the Principal’s Assembly is the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of a few select students with the Principal’s Award. From each year group, one student is chosen each term to receive this prestigious and much sought-after commendation. The reasons why a student is chosen differ, it is often for a variety of reasons, recognising effort and achievement across a range of fields. However, the awards are never given for solely academic success.
At the centre of our school philosophy is the ambition that all students develop six core values and attributes – Integrity, Respect, Care, Enquiry, Reflection and Perseverance – and do this in an environment of being Global Citizens, Learning Together. Without exception, the Principal’s Awards identified at least one of these traits in each of the students honoured, often more than one. Students, from as young as F1, are acknowledged as role models for their peers. It is a tremendous joy for me to read aloud the accolades from teachers, to see the pride on the faces of students who receive them and hear the applause of their friends and teachers.
Let me give you a few examples…. “In class, she always reaches above and beyond what is expected of her”, “She is a confident communicator who is an excellent representative of our form on the student council”, “He has a love of learning and always participates in lessons with enthusiasm and excitement”, “She has demonstrated great leadership skills this term… and has a keen eye for school improvement and democracy” and “She is a kind, cheerful girl who put a smile on everybody’s face and is a friend to all”.
Congratulations and well done to each of our Principal’s Award winners for Term 1. They are:
