On Tuesday 1 December, we welcomed friend of the school, Defence Attaché, Bea Walcott to the British International School Hanoi.
Bea met with a group of Year 10 students, who are members of an innovative class, who specialise in developing the “soft skills” of the 21st Century learner.
The Defence Attaché’s presentation was part of a unit on cultural literacy. The BIS Hanoi students have been studying how to navigate different cultures in social, economic and religious contexts. The Defence Attaché explained how members of the military are trained to understand and communicate with a range of people, when serving overseas. The students were fascinated by Bea Walcott’s stories and asked some challenging questions of the Defence Attaché.
After class, the Defence Attaché accepted a donation made by BIS Hanoi students to the British Legion Fund. The sum of money was raised through the sales of gifts linked to the British Commonwealth Remembrance Day. It was a timely reminder that every generation shares a respect for the culture of the Remembrance Day events.
