This term, our Key Stage 3 students participated in the MIT Challenges as part of their STEAM Curriculum, under the guidance of our teachers. After a period of planning the projects, this week, as teams, they presented their approaches to the challenge.
The challenge that our students are taking part in is “Extreme Exposure featuring Allan Adams”, one of the three “Reveal: Discovering Science Through Compelling Images” MIT challenges, which presents a snapshot of the work of an MIT expert. In this challenge, students will create imaging tools that let them explore places they've never dared to examine before. The project links to our curriculum in terms of: Art (photography), Design technology, Earth and environmental sciences, Engineering, Life sciences and Theory of knowledge.
Taking place in the Makerspace daily this week, Key Stage 3 students were busy preparing their tools and practicing for their presentations. The teachers were delighted to see the efforts that students have put in the projects, showing their passion and perseverance.
After the presentations, Mr Toner and Mr Casey offered feedback to help students improve their vision. Through the challenge, our students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world problems, just like MIT students and researchers!
