Our ambitious students

Dear Parents,

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting ambitious students who shared some of their achievements whilst working from home.

Firstly, I must mention a very talented artist from Year 4. When I invited Khanh Dan to bring a couple of pieces of her artwork into school, I didn’t know what to expect. On Tuesday morning, I finished welcoming students from the buses and returned to my office to find Khanh Dan eagerly waiting with a small package. When she revealed two incredible paintings, I was amazed by her talent! The techniques Khanh Dan used in her depiction of moon light over the water and in the creation of a rocky bay in the sunshine showed imagination and flair. I was pleased to hear that I could have the paintings on loan for a short period so if you drop in to see me, you will find them hanging proudly for all to admire. Well done, Khanh Dan!

On Monday, I was contacted by our NAE Global Campus Programme Manager with some excellent news; Angela a Year 11 student, has impressed members of UNICEF with her questions and education videos about COVID 19.  I met with Angela and Thu An, our Global Ambassadors, to find out more. Angela explained that her aim is to create a valuable resource for younger children which will help to provide information about COVID 19 at their level. One video has already been produced and the aspiration is to publish one per week. UNICEF will be meeting with Angela with the hope of publishing further information on their Voices of Youth website.

When Angela and Thu An first applied to become ambassadors, the lure might have been the trip to New York to take part in a UNICEF conference. Unfortunately, this incredible opportunity was cancelled due to COVID 19 which could have dampened spirits somewhat. I’m pleased to say that this was not the case. Angela and Thu An still have a strong desire to make an impact. Amongst other projects, they are keen to make a difference by exploring the use of solar panels here at BIS.

It has been great to hear from our young learners this week. Progress made through our virtual school has been clear to see and teachers are busy ensuring that learning journeys are moving forward in earnest, now that all of our students have returned.
