After releasing impressive IB Diploma results in July 2019, The British International School Hanoi (BIS Hanoi) has recently announced some more achievements of the Class of 2019 with more than 80 acceptances from prestigious educational institutions worldwide including world-leading universities within the Ivy League and Russell Group.

This year, BIS Hanoi graduates have received over 80 acceptances from prestigious educational institutions worldwide including universities within the Ivy League and Russell Group.

US and Canadian universities accounts for 43 percent of the university destinations, including Columbia University, New York University, Boston University (US) and University of Toronto (Canada). 21 percent are universities from UK and Europe such as King's College London, University of Birmingham and University of Manchester. 36 percent of the offers are from universities in Asia, including Korea and Hong Kong.

Academic success is a key factor that leads to remarkable university acceptances. In July 2019, 95% of the cohort were awarded the IB diploma with an impressive average of 33.5 points (the maximum IB score is 45), up from 32.4 points last year and significantly ahead of the global average of approximately 29.6 points this year.

“The teachers are so proud of our 2019 graduating class. They have worked incredibly hard to gain results that give them access to the world’s top universities. More importantly, through the IB Diploma Programme, our students have learned skills that will serve them well in an exciting, ever-changing future,” said Mr Tim Webb, Head of Secondary.

Achieving the IB Diploma is a valuable asset for the students as it demonstrates the ability to succeed academically and personally even in a rigorous and demanding program. This curriculum has been proven as an effective preparation for the demands of university study.

“Succeeding at university requires more than knowledge and impressive exam certificates, as in life, we must have the skill to problem-solve, think critically, communicate and collaborate”, shared Mr Webb.

Throughout the two-year programme, the students have learned to balance their time between a demanding course schedule, sports and community service activities to build an excellent profile with the aim to achieve acceptance to their top choice universities. One of the main elements of the IB Program is Theory of Knowledge (TOK), which enables students to develop their self-study along with critical thinking skills and prepares them for tertiary education.

Beside the ability to excel academically, the IB Program also inspires students to stand out socially and personally among millions of university applicants in the world. BIS Hanoi students are required to engage and take part in Creativity – Action – Service (CAS) projects and contribute to their school, local and global community, for example in Hanoi, Mai Chau and Tanzania.

During their time at BIS Hanoi, the students had the opportunity to collaborate with Performing Arts students at the regional festival in collaboration with Juilliard; create with international students from 12 different schools at the regional STEAM festival; and problem solve in New York with students from our other 65 schools at the UNICEF conference in New York.
