Celebrating academic success

Dear Parents,

Celebrations were at the fore of last week’s news as we recognised BIS achievements in the World Scholar’s Cup, our UNICEF collaboration and sporting achievements at the FOBISIA Games. This week, the spotlight is on Maths.

Following our celebration of Phuong Anh’s, ‘Top the World’ award for maths from Cambridge International, I would like to congratulate our BIS students on their achievements in the Maths Olympiad competition last Saturday. As hosts of this year’s competition, planning to hold an event for 14 schools, providing the appropriate level of challenge whilst ensuring a fast and fun pace is certainly no mean feat. Our impressive team of maths teachers and teaching assistant did a fabulous job of achieving just this! Our BIS teams also performed incredibly well to achieve 3^rd and 8^th place in the junior rounds and 5^th and 7^th place in the senior rounds.

Maths has also been the focus in the Primary school this week too as the fun House Maths competitions were held. The overall results will be revealed soon!

Live Lunch

One final Live Lunch for Term 1 was held in the foyer this week. This event provides the opportunity for students, no matter where they are on their musical journey, to perform on the stage over lunch time. It was lovely to see 2 parents perform for the first time too. It is admirable to see our students increase in confidence whether singing solo or performing as an ensemble – well done for being ambitious and taking part!

Continuing the theme of performance, all parents are invited to our festive concert next Wednesday evening. This annual event is a showcase of music and dance and promises to be a fun and varied programme.

Assessment Workshops for parents

Changes have been made to the ways we assess students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) and we are keen to explain our new methods. All parents are welcome to attend one of 4 workshops next week and should select the most suitable as the delivery will be in English, Vietnamese, Korean and Japanese.

Festive Cooking

I would like to conclude by saying thank you to our parent group, Friends of BIS, for welcoming me yesterday to their festive cookery session. The sharing of cultures through the medium of food is always a popular choice and I must say that the dishes tasted incredible. To add to the fun, I was especially fortunate to find the clay charm inside the galette des rois (king’s pie) and be crowned ‘Queen for the Day’!
