At BIS Hanoi, we marked the celebration of World Children's Day 2019 with several events.
This year is extra special as it marks 30 years of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – 30 years of child rights that have helped transform children’s lives around the world, and Vietnam was one of the first countries to sign the Convention.
The whole school took part in a 'go blue' themed non-uniform day on Wednesday to increase awareness of World Children's Day. Everyone had to wear at least one item of blue clothing – well known as UNICEF’s colour. In Secondary tutor time and life skills, students had the chance to use the World Children's Day resources on the Global Campus part of our website. There are lots of things there to learn from and enjoy, so if you haven't done so, do log onto your Global Campus and have a look around. In Primary, all of the children had a special PSHE lesson where they learned about the Rights of a Child and created rights for all children in the future.
On Friday morning, the Secondary school’s assembly was themed around UNICEF and World Children's Day. We had guest appearances from talented children and some invited speakers as well. In Primary assemblies, we have highlighted our superhero aide memoire, Indiana Integrity, and how showing integrity is an important aspect of children’s rights.
Furthermore, last weekend, a group of 14 Year 11 and 12 students took part in an event hosted by UNIS where they supported students from Vietnamese public schools to tackle the problems they have decided are the most important facing children in Vietnam today. You can read more about the event here.
We would encourage all families to support UNICEF and children’s right by signing UNICEF’s petition at this link: https://www.unicef.org/child-rights-convention
Remember, World Children's Day is about celebrating childhood, being grateful for what we have and learning how we can help others.
