Last Friday (November 2), British International School Hanoi (BIS Hanoi) hosted its 8th annual “International Festival” to celebrate the different nationalities and cultures within the school through traditional games, costumes and food as well as other community activities held by the school’s community partners.

This year, over 2500 people attended the International Festival, which took place at BIS Hanoi campus.

“The International Festival is the biggest community event of the year at BIS Hanoi, which allows our students, parents and our guests to learn more about the culture of different countries around the world. It is also an opportunity for family and friends to come together and have an enjoyable time and a fun day out,” said Ms Sue Hill, Principal.

At the festival, guests had the chance to learn and experience different cultures around the world along the Culture Avenue. Japanese calligraphy, Korean traditional game “Tuho” (also known as Pitch-pot) attracted many curious visitors!

Guests also enjoyed incredible live performances by talented BIS Hanoi students and parents, each represented a different culture: from traditional Japanese tea ceremony to Korean folk song and Taekwondo performance, from Morris Dance, African Dance to Vietnamese Lotus Dance and many more.

At the Game Zone, families were invited to participate in a plethora of fun and educational activities such as interactive games (AR & VR), zorbing for kids, fishing, basketball, etc. Our Food Trail gave the visitors a chance to discover flavourful international cuisines offered by many popular restaurants in town while at the Shopping Corner, a great variety of organic and eco-friendly products were on sale with great deals!

The festival also represented the connectedness that BIS has with both local and global development concerns. At the Community Street, we offered a row of stalls to local non-profits that aim to raise funds and awareness for their causes and to our students who are running their own fundraising projects.

This successful event marked only the very beginning of an entire week focusing on the diversity of world cultures – the International Week. Find out more about we come together to learn about different cultures and traditions at BIS here.
