Dear Parents,
This week, mindfulness was our whole school focus. In the launch assembly for Year 2 to Year 13 students explored how mindfulness can mean different things to different people however the consensus was that everyone needs to make time for themselves, to be present in the moment and to clear their minds from the stresses of everyday life!
Several studies have shown that mindfulness is good for children. Benefits such as an improvement in concentrations levels; children being able to calm down more easily when they are upset and helping children to make better decisions have been shown.
Many people find art a useful tool for mindfulness and students and staff have enjoyed using different media and varying techniques this week as we merged mindfulness with the Big Draw. In the foyer every morning, children have been able to let their creativity flow in mindful doodling and painting activities. Then at break and lunch times there have been a multitude of ways students can be mindful. Finger weaving, origami, painting on canvas and creativity to music are amongst the many activities which have been on offer. Thank you to all the staff involved in making this week one of calm and relaxation!
Phase 2 Exhibition
One of my favourite events of the year is when the children become teachers, and parents flood into classrooms and flexible areas ready to learn! Today, there was an amazing, exciting buzz down the Primary corridor as Year 3 and 4 children lead parents around activities. From exploding volcanoes to dissection of a flowering plant; from beautifully choreographed dance to year group sing-offs; tantalising technology to model making, this year did not disappoint. Well done, Phase 2 – you really are confident communicators who are enthralled by learning!
Linking with the British Embassy at Hoan Kiem Lake
Last weekend our Performing Arts Department provided students with a chance to perform to a wider audience in a picturesque setting by Hoan Kiem Lake. The British Embassy organised the event as a celebration of British education and formally invited our school to join. The BIS acts included a flute choir, brass ensemble and Primary dance performances and really showcased some of our incredible BIS talent. Thank you to the Performing Arts team for creating so many opportunities for our community.
There was also a celebration of musical talent through the Secondary Live Lunch, this week. So many students and staff enjoy these relaxed and informal events held over lunch time which also provide an occasion for students at any stage of their musical journey to take to the stage. Next week’s Live Lunch is for Primary students.
