We are incredibly proud to announce that our talented student, Eric Jang (soon to be in Year 6), recently took 1st prize in the 5th Chopin International Piano Competition in Thailand. Following on from that success, he also went on to take 2nd & 3rd place in the Hong Kong International Piano Competition.

During the Summer holidays, Eric made it through the qualifier for an International Piano Competition that saw him compete in two competitions across South East Asia. After a lot of practice and preparation, Eric was rewarded for his efforts when he took 1st place at the 5th Chopin International Competition in Thailand. He then followed that up by being placed 2nd and 3rd at the Hong Kong International Piano Competition.

All the contestants were of a very high standard and came from countries including USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

The panel of judges was made up of highly regarded and experienced Juilliard members, including world-renowned pianist Adam Gyorgy. Much to Eric's delight, Mr. Gyorgy took some time to express how much he enjoyed Eric's performance and also to pass on some words of wisdom.

Jang Jeong Woo, Eric's mother, shared with us that, “Eric adapted well in school and has always challenged himself to play the piano better. I believe that BIS Hanoi is a good school to support children and to help them grow”.
