UNISMUN XI began with students Choi Yoon Seo Jeon Jin Woo, Park Sung Woo, Nguyen Duc Tuan, Vu Duc Hang Giang and Nguyen Ha Minh taking their positions in the Human Rights Council, General Assembly 2, the Environmental Committee, the Special Conference, General Assembly 3 and General Assembly 1 respectively.

After engaging opening speeches on powerful topics such as transnational crime, the financing of terrorism, sustainable work and development opportunities and animal welfare, the students were set to begin lobbying. The process involves them networking, persuading and engaging other students from all over the region to become co-submitters of their proposed resolution. Once complete, the delegates, who were all representing Mexico, have to debate, defend and amend their resolution in a bid to obtain sufficient votes for it to pass.

The afternoon began with the opening ceremony with guest speakers from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). Both spoke passionately, yet pragmatically on the issues facing young people today as well as referenced the benefits of Model United Nations (MUN) in learning and developing the skills to address these challenges.

Students resumed debate on the resolutions that had been submitted that morning before making their way home. President Trump’s early departure from the summit, held in Hanoi, meant there was no disruption to the roads and students were able to use the evening to review the chair reports for the topics to be covered the following day.
