BIS Hanoi Students Return from Dalat Residential

We welcomed home Ms Stevenson, Head of Key Stage 4, and her students from Dalat today. They had an amazing adventure and provided a timely reminder of the value of our residentials.

Key Stage 3 Trips Update 

It was a sobering experience following the coverage of typhoon Mangkhut, and the devastation it caused in the wider region. We were very fortunate that it passed Hanoi but its potential for damage justified the cancellation of the Key Stage 3 trips.

We are in negotiations with our trip providers to try and identify suitable dates for rescheduling the trips, later in the school year. We will inform parents and children of the new dates, as soon as possible.

Calling all Year 11 and Year 13 students- It’s Time to Start Studying!

Year 11 and Year 13 students will sit Progress Check Tests in the week beginning 15 October 2018. It is important that the students begin organising their notes this weekend and commence revising for these tests next week. The tests will check understanding, knowledge and skills. The tests are based on the work covered between August 2017 and September 30 2018. The students have covered a huge body of work in this time period and it is important that they review their learning over the next 3 weeks. This will provide an important stepping stone towards trial exam success in January.

Making a Difference in the World Today

All BIS Hanoi students aspire to be custodians of our environment. On Monday, the Secondary school learned about the illegal trade in rhino horn. Rhino horn trading in Vietnam is a significant problem. The children learned about ways in which they could increase the public’s awareness of this problem. The children showed their support for the cause by dressing up in wild animal costumes and makeup.

Extraordinary MIT-Inspired Creativity at BIS Hanoi

Noah McKie’s entry for "Hack the Tube" was presented in true MIT style which demonstrated his creativity and problem-solving skills. Noah combined a few household items such as toilet roll and chopsticks with a battery/motor/fan to create a  self-propelling car. Amazing!

Finally, a reminder that the Secondary ECA program begins on Monday 24 September 2018.
