A required component of the IBDP, the Group 4 Experimental Sciences projects allow students to think creatively and collaborate on a project of their own design. The aim is to develop an understanding of the relationships between scientific disciplines and their influence on other areas of knowledge; this year the students were given a theme of ‘Colonisation of a planetary body’ for them to base their project around.
Each student was placed in a group so that they were the lead on a particular area of experimental science and the groups were asked to brainstorm ideas before developing one of them as their own project. Not only did they develop this, establish and order the required equipment for it but they also spent a whole day investigating their project research question. The breadth of project research questions was incredibly wide and testament to the fact that our Year 12’s fully understood the requirements of the project. Having spent a full day practically investigating they were then asked to spend a morning creating a narrated video of their endeavours and findings.
The whole event was a tremendous success; Mr Duckett and myself are proud to say that every student that took part has successfully completed, and passed, an essential component to their IBDP qualifications.
On behalf of the whole department I would like to congratulate our Year 12’s on this huge success, well done Year 12!
