Dear Parents,
I would like to start by celebrating BIS Primary success in ICT. Last weekend, Noah, Tuong Anh, Ky Lam, Nam Khoi, Xuan An and Coco from Year 5 and 6 entered a Global Codeathon hosted by UNIS. 6 Schools from Hanoi were involved including UNIS, Concordia, Hanoi International School, BDCF and a local Vietnamese school. In addition, 10 other schools entered remotely from Ho Chi Minh City, USA, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Pakistan and India.
Each of our budding computer programmers had the task of creating a game to save the planet. One student was selected to represent each team and had one minute to present their own game to the judges and other participants. Tuong Anh bravely stepped up and proudly explained her computer game, Defend the Earth; she certainly impressed her audience and achieved an incredible second place out of 74 competitors. Mr. Trett, Mr. Byatt and Mrs. Heidi (our IT Manager) accompanied the students to the competition. They were very impressed by the high quality of our students’ work and their confidence in explaining their programs to other competitors. The six students were true ambassadors for the BIS and made their teachers very proud. Congratulations to Tuong Anh who received her prize, a Fablab, in assembly today.
We were very lucky to have famous people join us in our Phase 2 and 3 assembly today. King Henry V111, Marc Anthony, Mother Theresa, Queen Elizabeth 1st, John Logi Baird and Walt Disney took part in interviews on stage which were skillfully carried out by our Year 2 children. Two teams of teachers were then asked questions about the famous people. Well done to Mr. Wild and Mrs. Smith who narrowly beat Mr. Holmes and Mr. Callan. Year 2 children were amazing speakers as they shared their learning with a packed assembly. I am now really looking forward to the Year 2 and 3 show Cinderalla: The True Story, which will take place on May 23rd.
Congratulations also to the Year 1 children who performed for parents in the EYC this morning. They sang and spoke their way through a lovely assembly which showed us all the hard work they have being doing in their topic on Buildings.
