BIS Hanoi Parents Return to School

Dear Parents

We had a fun evening on Tuesday, when over 50 Year 8 parents attended lessons at British International School Hanoi. The Teach Your Parent event was organised by Mrs Wild (Head of Key Stage 3) with the support of the year 8 teachers but the real stars were the children and their parents. The children taught lessons in subjects ranging from the topic of density in science to the story of slavery in history. Parents learned exactly how their children are taught and the children learned that they had the skills and energy required to deliver excellent lessons. 

New Assessment Proposal Gets Top Marks from our BIS Hanoi Parents

The assessment development group represented by Nicola Witton (Assistant Head), Jim Schofield (Head of Geography) and Nicola Hemming (teacher of science) met with secondary parents on Tuesday morning. The group introduced changes to the way the work of students will be assessed at BIS Hanoi, next year. Parents had the chance to view and discuss assessed work. The parents agreed that the new system was easy to understand and an improvement on previous methods used by the school. We anticipate that the new system will be consistent and make a positive difference to the progress of all our pupils in the next academic year.

Congratulations to Do Bao Ngoc Vi (Annie) in Year 12

This week I was amazed by the academic performance of Annie in Year 12.  We learned that she had scored maximum marks (36/36) on the ACT pre-university entrance test. The ACT like the SAT is a general aptitude test that helps universities (particularly in the USA) determine a student’s suitability for their courses. When I asked Annie how she had achieved this level of excellence, she was very humble and said it was the result of 2 months of hard work and studying. The truth is even the most gifted students have to work very hard to succeed.

On Saturday 13 May from 11am to 2:30 pm we will be hosting the Hanoi Athletic Conference Friendly Swimming Gala. Parents and pupils are welcome to come and support our swimmers at the British International School Hanoi pool.  

Music Concert, 17 May, 6:30 pm at the National Academy of Music

Please support our musicians performing in our benefit concert on Wednesday evening (17 May 6:30 pm) at the National Academy of Music, 77 Hao Nam, Dong Da, Hanoi.

This promises to be an amazing event enhanced by international class performers from Juilliard and Vietnam. I hope to see many parents attend.
