19:03 Lionhearts are the pride of the FOBISIA pack.
Fighting through the tiredness and achy muscles the British International School Hanoi students returned to Garden International School for the final day of competition. Today it was the turn of the boys to play football and the girls basketball. Following their past success both teams were optimistic about their chances in the final event and set out to demonstrate their strength. Both teams were dominant from the outset with the boys showing class and confidence in front of goal beating BVIS HCMC 9-0 and the girls securing a very comfortable 14-3 victory against the same school.
The day followed in a similar fashion for the boys, facing some tougher competition but remaining patient and always coming out on top. Winning all 5 games placed the boys firmly in gold medal position. A special mention to Quang Minh Nguyen who's composure in front of goal made him the day's top scorer.
The girls continued to go from strength to strength exceeding all expectations on the court. Some amazing play by Phuong Anh, supported by the girls around her led to a further 3 victories. Unfortunately, for the girls, they narrowly missed a final win when playing against SIS who had shown their strength in basketball against us the day before. Not to be disappointed the girls bounced off the court with very well deserved silver medals.
The evening culminated in a gala dinner held by the host school where the students enjoyed traditional Thai music and food. The overall results were announced with BIS taking 1st place in Athletics, Swimming and Football and 2nd place in Basketball.
For our first U13 FOBISIA this is a fantastic achievement. The students have worked extremely hard in the build up to this event and this shone through in their performances. We are very proud of them all!
18:03 BIS Lionhearts Strike Again
Today saw the start of the team competitions, with girls competing in Football and boys in Basketball.
Riding high from the success of day one, both teams started confidently with self – belief soaring in the British International School camp.
Both teams stormed to victory in the 1st games against British Vietnamese International School Ho Chi Minh – the girls putting a magnificent 5 goals past the opposition keeper and the boys dominating in a very convincing 18-9 win.
In the second round both teams faced what was to be their strongest competition of the day. BIS gave their all, battling to the final whistle (and beyond as the Basketball went to overtime). Some amazing performances from all team members but the games were eventually taken by SIS, beating us by single point/goal margins in both sports.
Both teams took their defeats graciously and demonstrated excellent mental strength to move on and win all 3 of their remaining matches. Doing so comfortably and with an element of ‘swagger’!
Outstanding performances by Jess Lee, scoring 7 of the teams 11 goals and Duc Tuan scoring 24 of the teams points.
Another successful day here in Thailand followed by a fun-filled afternoon of volleyball in the pool. This was followed by some very mischievous student behaviour which ended with 2 very wet members of staff!
Tomorrow brings the last day of competition. Students are well rested and ready to take on the final events and are hoping to add to their already outstanding medal tally.
17:03 Lionhearts Strike Gold in Thailand
BIS Lionhearts performed beyond all expectations today, demonstrating exceptional performances both in Athletics and Swimming. The team arrived fueled and ready to perform – motivation and ambition was high with all students setting themselves goals for the day ahead.
The competition began with Athletics where British International School Hanoi took a strong lead from the beginning of the day with Ha Minh setting the bar high in the very first race. A gold medal in the 1500m filled the team with confidence and they responded positively to her winning ways. The day was filled with personal bests, exceptional teamwork and a wealth of medals. BIS left the stadium at lunchtime with a total of 54 medals for the team – 36 of these gold! Special mentions to; Ha Minh, Jess, Phuong Anh, Thien, Hiroshi, Bao, James and Tung Lam – all finishing with 3 or more personal medals.
The second event of the day was swimming, held outside again in gorgeous sunshine. The students were very much looking forward to getting in the water to cool off! Buoyed by a successful morning hopes were high and self-belief shone through. Phuong Linh set the tone again with a win in the 1st race of the swimming event – a gold medal in the 100m IM. The medals came in thick and fast throughout the afternoon – a further 39 medals to add to the BIS collection, 30 of these gold. Special mentions to; Ha Minh, Jess, Phuong Linh, Quang Minh and Bao – all finishing with 4 or more personal medals.
An amazing day for the team. An indication that hard work and perseverance really does pay off!
As I write this the students are getting ready for bed, an early night for all as they prepare for another hard day of competition tomorrow.
16.03: Tonight, the Under 13 FOBISIA tournament officially opened with a gala dinner at the team hotel. Students were motivated by the words of a Great British paralympian, who spoke at the dinner. Students from the host school, Garden International, showcased their talent by performing Thai song and dance routines. The team is very excited and looking forward to athletics and swimming tomorrow.
