The Boys Middle School Basketball team faced an excellent St Paul’s and Olympia team last week. After the first quarter of both games it was obvious that it was going to be an uphill battle. We decided after the first quarter of each game that our main objective of each match was not the final result but to experiment with the offence and try some new players in different positions. Both games ended up with defeats but the determination and effort put in by the team was evident by only losing by small margins in both games.
This week the Boys team had another tough fixture away against the UNIS ‘B’ team. The team was nervous when travelling to the match but a team talk by Mr Langford reminded them to stick to the principals that they have been working on all season and to go out and enjoy playing the game, this seem to settled the team. Experimenting with different personal and offensive plays against St Paul’s and Olympia had improve the team and they came out firing, the score was 9-2 after the first quarter. Due to a large squad size and player improvements throughout the season Mr Langford was confident in rotating the player to keep them fresh. This tactic work superbly by winning the game comfortably 21-4. Man of the match goes to year 7 Duc Minh, who had an outstanding game and was leading point scorer. The team is finishing strongly with only one more match and a tournament left of the season, can BIS Lionhearts cause another upset?
