INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM (IPC)

The award-winning International Primary Curriculum (IPC) takes a comprehensive approach to learning, through a structured curriculum that’s focused on Subject, Personal and International Learning Goals. Students develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through relevant, diverse, and inclusive thematic Units of Learning.

BENEFITS OF THE IPC

The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) has several advantages over other primary school curricula. These inspire our children to learn and grow as they progress though their educational journey.
  • The IPC can be differentiated for each child’s individual learning path, based on their interests and level of understanding.
  • The IPC is flexible, can be adapted to local curricula requirements, and be integrated into other programmes in a creative way.
  • Studying the IPC at a Nord Anglia school places your child in an international community through our Global Campus platform, an online space for sharing information.
  • Assessment is designed to improve learning through Key Skills rubrics.
  • The IPC encourages collaboration at all levels of education, including between teachers and pupils, peers, colleagues, and Nord Anglia communities.

INTERNATIONAL Learning Goals

International Learning Goals are organised into three levels that detail the knowledge, skills and understanding students need to develop during their primary education.

In Nord Anglia schools, we assess students at 7, 9 and 11-years-old. Our teachers test their knowledge in several subjects, including Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Art, Health and Wellbeing, Geography, History, Technology, Music, and Physical Education.

The International Learning Goals develop global mindedness and competence. Each IPC thematic Unit includes International Tasks that foster national, global, and intercultural perspectives on the world. These empower learners to take action and make a difference.

HOW WE TEACH

Our talented teachers nurture our students’ holistic development, delivering a challenging and rewarding education. Children who study the IPC go on to be successful throughout their school careers and at university, before finding their place in our increasingly globalised world.

Our home, host, heritage and adopted countries' strategy accommodates local cultures and customs, opening the door to opportunities around the world. For our students to connect IPC learning to the world around them, they attend field trips throughout the year, which build knowledge, skills and a deeper understanding of their studies in class.

PERSONAL LEARNING GOALS

The IPC features eight specific Personal Learning Goals or qualities, which students need to master to successfully overcome and embrace challenges. These are taught both explicitly and implicitly.
The Personal Learning Goals develop students who are:
  • Adaptable: approaching learning flexibly, exploring various roles, ideas, and strategies.
  • Collaborators: learning about the different roles in groups and developing leadership skills.
  • Communicators: learning to communicate effectively and with integrity using a range of tools and languages.
  • Empathetic: demonstrating kindness and recognising the experiences of others.
  • Ethical: learning about rules and moral codes and making positive, ethical choices.
  • Resilient: learning to persevere and knowing when to seek help.
  • Respectful: learning how to treat all living things and to respect and care for the environment.
  • Thinkers: using a range of thinking and problem-solving skills within and beyond the classroom.
