INTERNATIONAL EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM (IEYC)

The award-winning International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) is built on and uses global best practices, holistic, and play-based approaches that cover all curriculum areas, including personal, social, and emotional development. Informed by progressive research and feedback from schools around the world, the IEYC meets the needs of our youngest learners at this key stage of their development.

About the IEYC

The International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) introduces our youngest learners to a world of opportunity.
The IEYC consists of:
  • A clear process of learning, an underpinning philosophy, and progressive pedagogy.
  • Three dimensions of Learning and Development: Academic, International and Personal.
  • Learning Strands within each dimension, which describe what students will experience.
  • Learning Outcomes that describe the knowledge, skills and increasing understanding children will develop as they progress.
  • Themed Units of Learning that guide teachers’ planning and provide lesson ideas.
  • An online Curriculum Portal that supports planning, sharing, webinars, and resources.
  • A Self-Review process that provides guidance on the effective use of the IEYC.
  • An Accreditation Process (optional) that validates the use of the IEYC.
  • A full professional learning programme, with courses for teachers and leadership.

IEYC LEARNNG OUTCOMES

The IEYC Learning Outcomes identify the knowledge, skills and understanding children should make progress towards.

The curriculum recognises the fluid and dynamic nature of young children’s learning, and acknowledges that no two learners reach developmental milestones at the same time. It also allows students to demonstrate various aspects of learning within different contexts. Within each strand, the Learning Outcomes enable teachers to monitor each child’s development as they move through the IEYC Units.

HOW WE TEACH THE IEYC

The IEYC supports teachers and leaders through contemporary, internationally researched curriculum materials. These are used to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate Units of Learning.

Central to the IEYC is the belief in, and commitment to, the holistic development of each child through enjoyable and playful personal, international, and academic learning experiences. These are designed to prepare them for opportunities and challenges both now and in the future. Through this truly international curriculum, our children grow into informed, globally competent, socially conscious, and motivated students who positively contribute within a local and/or global context.

PERSONAL LEARNING GOALS

The IEYC features eight specific Personal Learning Goals or qualities, which students need to master to successfully overcome and embrace challenges. These are taught both explicitly and implicitly and continue through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).
The Personal Learning Goals develop students who are:
  • Adaptable: approaching learning flexibly, exploring various roles, ideas, and strategies.
  • Collaborators: learning about the different roles in groups and developing leadership skills.
  • Communicators: learning to communicate effectively and with integrity using a range of tools and languages.
  • Empathetic: demonstrating kindness and recognising the experiences of others.
  • Ethical: learning about rules and moral codes to make positive, ethical choices.
  • Resilient: learning to persevere and knowing when to seek help.
  • Respectful: learning how to treat all living things and to respect and care for the environment.
  • Thinkers: using a range of thinking and problem-solving skills within and beyond the classroom.
