ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Our teachers will place your child at the center of their own learning, allowing us to tailor to their specific abilities and interests.
We consider our students’ different learning styles to develop lessons that are integrated across different subjects, based on age-appropriate topics that boost their curiosity.
And while our students’ learning experiences are filled with personal challenge and growth, they lead to fantastic outcomes.
We’ll unlock your child’s potential through our internationally recognized curricula, personalized approach to learning, and integration of subjects. We’ll also guide your child in connecting their questions or interests to the world outside of school.
We build our students’ confidence as they develop new skills.
By exploring modern topics and themes across the subjects, your child will work towards their questions, interests, and goals in various areas of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC).

With a mix of student-led and teacher-led learning, Early Years classes give students a chance to engage with new topics in a fun, stimulating way.
Our British heritage is evident in our instruction of English and Mathematics lessons that correspond with the English National Curriculum.
Using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), we explore fascinating topics each half term and follow a thematic approach to learning that lets curiosity guide us through learning pathways. Together, we unlock inventive ways to explore IPC ideas across multiple subjects, such as Art, History, and Science.
We take time to get ready for the day and focus on well-being in our form groups at morning registration. This is a great time to discuss important information like our schedules or details of an upcoming activity or presentation.
The programme in Lower Secondary (Years 7 to 9) lets us explore big ideas through the lens of multiple subjects. We work on areas that makes us curious and connect reference points from various subjects to specific themes or topics.
With sports teams in addition to academic and hobby clubs, the range of extracurricular activities at BISW includes something fun for everyone and ensures students can explore their interests. Students have access to field trips to important sites in the DC area. Furthermore, we provide residential trips to overnight camps.
Students in Years 10 and 11 learn across ten subjects in the two-year IGCSE programme, which is customized to their personal goals and interests. Compulsory subjects include English, mathematics, languages, and sciences. Electives in history, geography, fine arts, performing arts, and more are available.
Students in Years 12 and 13 work through the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a widely acclaimed programme accepted and recognized for entry into higher education and universities worldwide.
Our students leave BISW with the confidence, results, resilience, and ambition to succeed in whatever they want to do or be in life. What's more, they'll always be part of the Nord Anglia family.
BISW’s outstanding teachers create the very best educational experiences in the world. That’s because over 90% of our teachers are experienced in British heritage education – which means your child is in the best hands with our expert teachers.
They’re also equipped with unique training materials from our award-winning professional development platform, Nord Anglia University, as well as word-class resources from our collaborators, MIT and Juilliard.
We always support our teachers through a regular performance review process, so that we’ll take the time to evaluate and reflect, thoughtfully ensuring that our educational techniques and tools are best-in-class.
As well as exceptional teachers, your child’s education will benefit from life-changing experiences beyond the classroom that allow them to explore, discover and think critically.
