Studying history provides invaluable lessons about our present. Last month, a group of secondary students from Collège Champittet travelled to Auschwitz-Birkenau in order to learn more about the Holocaust. The trip was organised together with CICAD, a Swiss association dedicated to fighting antisemitism through education.
French-speaking guides accompanied our students throughout the long but very worthwhile day.
In Auschwitz, our students attended a ceremony to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Shoah. Through a guided tour in French, our group discovered more about the rise of Nazism and the mechanisms of genocide. The visit left a profound impression on our students, driving home lessons in the importance of both history and memory.
Our students came away from the Auschwitz concentration camp with a deeper understanding of this dark chapter, and heightened awareness of the dangers of racism, discrimination and extremist thinking. Unfortunately, Holocaust denial and other forms of antisemitism continue to exist today. By remembering the past, we can help to educate both ourselves and others, and work towards a better future.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Here at Champittet, we know that inspiring children to dream big while envisioning their future is a core part of education. It’s also the focus of Dare All Trades Day, or JOM (Journée Oser tous les Métiers).
The Winter Ball is an eagerly awaited annual tradition here at Champittet, but this year brought a twist: the school’s first ever Masquerade Ball. With the theme “Black and Gold, don’t forget your mask!”, this year’s winter dance was organised by 14th-grade IB students, and the event was open to students in grades 9 and 10.

This year, our Christmas market, which will take place on 18, 19 and 20 December in the garden of the Villa des Sciences, has a goal that is particularly close to our hearts: to raise funds to support the Jan & Oscar Foundation, created by Laurence Pian, the mother of one of our students who suffered a great tragedy in 2004.
