What to Expect from Windermere Preparatory School Physical Education Teachers
Parents can expect the following from each Physical Education teacher:
-
Students will gain a better appreciation and understanding of general exercise, health, and nutrition.
-
Students will learn to collaborate during activities and develop a healthy sense of competition during the games played.
-
Students will learn in an environment that is encouraging and mutually respectful as each participant learns about his or her individual strengths and how to grow areas of weakness.
-
Students will be put in the position to develop positive attitudes toward Physical Education and being physically active.
-
Students will receive constant commentaries and evaluations about better food alternatives to food products that are not beneficial toward their development.
-
Parents will receive communication about the students’ individual progress and performance through email, phone calls, and/or letters (fitnessgrams) home.
-
Parents will receive health and nutrition information related to elements in the curriculum, transmitted through newsletters.
Parent Support System
In order for the physical education teachers to implement an effective curriculum that will ensure our mission comes to life everyday, we need parent support. Please review the ways that you can help foster the physical fitness lifestyle for your children so that they are excited about what we do in their classes.
Support and Reinforce
-
When you reinforce what we do in class each day, the students will find more value in it.
-
Include your children in shopping trips and meal preparation so they can discuss your family practices in class when we discuss nutrition.
-
Encourage your children to actively work toward their goals so that they develop perseverance.
-
Students are sometimes unwilling to participate because they are afraid to try, and we are working to ensure they feel support and encouragement as they participate. Please reinforce their need to try.
-
Remind students to keep their belongings safe and not to bring valuable items to the Physical Education class.
Communication
-
All of the physical education teachers want to talk to parents about their children’s progress.
-
If there is ever a concern, please contact the teacher directly so that they can discuss the issues with you.
-
When the student is unable to participate in class, please be sure to provide a doctor’s note with detailed information so that the teacher knows how to work with your child when they are able to return to activity.
Be Active
-
Encourage your children to be active by engaging in physical activity at home during the week and on the weekends.
-
Create opportunities for family activities that revolve around the healthy lifestyle – walks/runs, bicycling, playing catch, cooking meals together, etc.
-
Ask your children what they are doing in their Physical Education classes. Parents are invited to join a class if you are ever available. Contact your child’s Physical Education teacher if you would like to participate.
