Winston Churchill said, “You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give.” This sentiment is the rationale behind the WPS Community Service program. Encouraging students to give of themselves puts both the “virtus” and “unitas” of our crest into action.
High School Community Service
Windermere Preparatory School uses ManageBac to record all community service and International Baccalaureate CAS activities for High School students. Each student has a personal account linked to his or her email address. Through ManageBac, students can see upcoming volunteer opportunities, record activities for pre-approval, write reflections, and send supervisor reviews for documentation.
All community service activities must be unpaid in order to receive credit for the hours. Community service activities should benefit a non-profit, educational, or government organization in need.

Middle School Community Service Trips
Sixth Grade: Society of St. Andrews
Sixth Grade students work with the charitable group called the Society of St. Andrews. This organization goes out to area farms and collects in-season produce that is left behind after harvesting. All collected produce is then passed on to area food banks. WPS donates collected produce to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
Seventh Grade: Environmental Ambassadors
Seventh Graders, deemed our “Environmental Ambassadors,” help at nearby Windermere parks and organizations, helping to enforce a green community. Because their science curriculum is focused on Earth Science, our Seventh Grade students help on campus as well, tending to the middle school garden, and hosting the popular "Environmental Day" for the community.
Eighth Grade: Give Kids the World
The Eighth Grade class volunteers their time at the Give Kids the World Village, a remarkable organization that provides children with life-threatening illnesses and their families a week of “escape” at this kid-friendly village. Our Eighth Graders help throughout the village, readying it for visitors.
Lower School Community Service
You have two hands, one to help yourself and one to help others”- this is the foundation that we begin to instill in even the youngest of the Lower School learners. Through the simple act of giving of themselves, our students learn that they can make a difference in the lives of others.
Our youngest students will visit local nursing homes and entertain them with their voices and adorable smiles, while our older students will work to help collect resources to support Matthew’s Hope and other similar organizations. Through the giving of themselves, we engage them in “virtus” and “unitas” and put two of the symbols of our crest into action.
