IB students at Windermere Prep continue to make strides into 2021. Our IB juniors (144 students in total) have successfully completed their first semester in IB classes, and those working toward the full IB Diploma are starting their Extended Essay component. The IB seniors (142 students in total) took their mock exams before the holiday break and are putting the finishing touches on their internal assessments. Even in an unprecedented school year, our IB students are making great progress as they prepare to finish strong. ~ Anne Lyng, IB Coordinator
Quotes from IB Students:
"Being an IB Diploma student was very challenging. It is not easy! It doesn’t solely require academic excellence but also persistence, time management, and personal skills. However, I can’t think of pursuing any other path. The international perspective that it allowed me to have through my years at WPS, with great teachers and resources, will certainly prepare me for college. Nothing but thanks!" Isabela, Class of 2021
"IB has shaped my years at WPS by making me an effective learner. Before WPS, I called studying, typing my notes and then glancing over them. However, with the challenging curriculum IB brought on, I had to learn how to effectively study to understand and apply the material in a test situation. I had a fire to learn before, but IB just made it burn brighter because it challenged me and I was excited to learn complex content. Now, I write all of my notes because I learned I retain information better when I write it, watch videos online, read the textbook multiple times, and do all the practice questions as part of my studying. I think IB has most definitely prepared me for college because it has allowed me to learn complex topics that I will need for college classes, and now I can go into college with a basic understanding instead of starting the class behind. For example, in IB Chemistry HL we learned Organic Chemistry and when I was speaking to my parents about it they said they hadn't learned that material until junior year in college. This was encouraging to me because I had proven to myself that I could learn college-level content, and reassured me that I was prepared for college because I had that fundamental understanding of Organic Chemistry. I feel prepared for college because IB has allowed me to struggle and built grit within me, which I can apply to college. Overall, I would say that while IB takes hard work and in the moment it can seem overwhelming, I can look back even now in my senior year and I can be proud of all that I have accomplished. I am proud of the progress I made after being so frustrated in so many classes, but then learning to stop stressing and do something about it, learn. I have enjoyed my time in IB and I am happy I decided to participate in the IB Diploma Program. It has not only taught me content, but also allowed me to grow personally and learn about myself and how I deal with stress or study." Annika, Class of 2021
