PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES OPEN HOUSE
Beginning with our youngest learners, Spanish is the language that is taught throughout the Lower School. Our Spanish program has four main goals; to develop an understanding and an appreciation for other languages and cultures, to develop real usable listening comprehension skills, to develop verbal proficiency in the target language, using correct accent and pronunciation, and to build a vocabulary base, all of which will enable the learner to communicate through conversation, reading, and writing about a variety of commonly discussed topics. These goals are visited and assessed on a regular basis by our Spanish teachers. Learning these skills will help the students in their core subject areas as well, as they are working on similar reading, writing, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. This year, the Spanish teachers revamped the curriculum and spent time working together to build onto their previous curriculum. We hope your children are bringing their Spanish learning home to you. Please encourage them to continue to practice their speaking, reading, and writing in Spanish at home.
If you have questions or would like more information about your child’s specific Spanish program, please contact Alicia Occhetti (grades 2-5) or Kimberley Schultz (grades PreK- grade 1).
