North Carolina junior and Windermere Prep Alum, Austin Bergner was selected on the second day of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. The right-handed pitcher was taken in the 9th round with the 262nd pick overall. In the 2019 season, Bergner is 6-1 with a 5.21 ERA. He has struck out 72 batters in 77.2 innings of work.
The Windermere, Fla. native was dominant in his last start against Tennessee, which won Carolina the Super Regional. He tossed seven innings of two-run ball, striking out eight and allowing just four hits. In his career, Bergner has pitched 208.1 innings in Carolina blue, striking out 201 batters and allowing 198 hits. He is 17-6 with a 4.31 ERA.
