Character Education
Throughout history, character education has been the shared responsibility of parents, teachers, and members of the community, who come together to support positive character development. Character education teaches the habits of thought and deed that help people live and work together as families, friends, neighbors, communities, and nations. Character education begins in Pre-Kindergarten and continues through 5th grade at Windermere Preparatory School. Our students learn new skills, become aware of the needs and perspectives of others, and learn the importance of selfless serving and giving.
Community Service
Windermere Preparatory School students learn at an early age that they can have a positive influence on others and the world around them through community service. Beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, our students learn to give of themselves by visiting local nursing homes and sharing their voices and smiles with the elderly residents. Students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade continue to give to others in our community and make a difference in their world through a variety of activities that include: gathering items for the Matthew's Hope, helping our troops by collecting items for gift packages, and giving to others in poverty through various local and international organizations.
Field Trips
Educational extension activities are an important part of the Windermere Preparatory School experience. We believe that well-planned field trips afford an experiential learning opportunity that cannot be duplicated in the classroom. We find that they play an integral role in increasing student knowledge and understanding of a subject, add a sense of realism to the topic of study, and provide an opportunity to develop and enhance a student’s socialization and citizenship skills.
Some of our field trips include but are not limited to: Disney Yes programs, SeaWorld, Kennedy Space Center, St. Augustine, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Reedy Creek Fire Station, Marine Discovery Center, the Dali Museum, Forever Florida, and many “in house” field trips where hands-on experts visit us!
