Guide for New Families at primary school

Guide for New Families at Primary School | St Andrews Bangkok - Primary School

Welcome to Primary School

A guide to helping new families with the start of school at St Andrews International School Bangkok.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to Primary School and hope that the children are as excited as we are! To help you prepare for the start of school, please see the information below, which we hope you will find helpful.

School Uniform

The School Uniform Guide will give you all the information on school uniforms. Once school has started, new students will be assigned House colours, so you can purchase your House polo shirt during the first week of term (House shirts are only worn on Fridays).

Primary School uniforms can be purchased directly from the Uniform Shop. The Primary School Uniform Shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. For more details or if you have any questions, please call +662 381-2387.

If you are new to St Andrews, our friendly staff will happily assist you with your child’s uniform requirements. This is an excellent opportunity to beat the rush and ensure your kids are smartly attired for the new school year. If you cannot visit us before school begins, uniforms can always be purchased at the start of the term.

Your child will be assigned to a House at the start of the new term, so there is no need to purchase a House polo shirt at this time. House shirts are worn every Friday and during special House events throughout the year.

Student lanyards

All students from Year 1 and above must wear their Student ID card and blue lanyard at all times to enter and exit the school premises. For our younger students in the Foundation Stage, a bag tag will be provided, which can be attached to their school bag. After purchasing school uniforms, please visit our School Office so that we can take your child’s photo for their Student ID card, which will be provided on the first day at school. Parents will also be provided with a Family ID card and a red lanyard, we kindly request that you wear these at all times when you enter, exit, and are around the school premises.

Shuttle bus

For the convenience of our entire community and to ease car park congestion, we have free morning and afternoon shuttle buses that loop along 3 bus routes and serve both parents and students at the Primary School and the High School.

Year 3  to Year 6 students can only use the Shuttle Bus Service independently after parents or guardians have given permission online via Moodle. To do so, please log onto Moodle and click the 'Buses' icon or click here.

Door-to-Door Transport

St Andrews also offers a paid door-to-door school bus service. Location zones determine pricing, pick-up times, and drop-off times. The School Bus Fees section on the Tuition Fees page provides additional information regarding this service.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with our Transport Team at transport@standrews.ac.th.

Both of these services will begin at the start of the Term.

Canteen service

Our Primary School canteen is run by getfresh. Snacks and lunch are provided for all children. Menus are made available each week via Moodle so that you can discuss food choices with your children beforehand. Food choices take into account our students' many different dietary requirements, and there is always something available for even the most difficult of eaters.

Parents can opt in by paying for food on each term’s invoice or purchasing daily vouchers. Alternatively, you may have your son/daughter bring food from home. For the health and safety of all students, please be reminded that St Andrews is a Nut-Free school.

Teachers are on duty during lunchtime to ensure that children make sensible food choices and eat enough lunch.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We strongly encourage all students to participate in activities outside the usual curriculum, as it helps children explore diverse interests, gain valuable skills, and foster well-rounded development. Each term, we offer a wide range of activities in the afternoon after the usual school day is over, with most running from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

How to sign up for ECAs

Each term, ECA sign-ups are via Moodle. The activity signups are based on a preference-based system and include all ECAs, Swimming, Sport, and weekend activities. Please note that you must be logged into Moodle with a parent/guardian account to access this module. You will receive your access to Moodle before the start of the term.

At the end of the initial sign-up phase, the system will allocate places to ensure everyone’s preferences are fairly considered. You will then be notified of which places your child has been allocated and will be able to modify those activities should you wish, subject to alternative places being available. It is important to note that once activities start, it will not be possible to amend or cancel your activity selections.

Please note:

• If an activity session run by school staff cannot take place due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, there will be no make-up session.

• If an activity session led by external providers cannot take place, every effort will be made to schedule a make-up class. If this is not possible, you will be refunded for that session.

Our Family Support Team can assist you with any specific questions regarding activities, should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@standrews.ac.th.

Communications

Every week, we send out a School Newsletter with links to important information about future events and a look back at other school activities. We have imported all of the email addresses you provided into our database.

The first day of school

Our school day begins at 7:45 am. On your child’s first day, they should report to the school office from 7:15 am to 7:30 am, where a staff member will meet them and show them to their classrooms in time for the start of the school day. Your child will be assigned to a school class, and children will be provided with buddies to help them find their way around their new campus.
