Sports
In our excellent sports facilities, your child will get active, compete against friends and other schools, and enjoy an exceptional range of after-school activities.
Sports

Taking part in sport has so many benefits, from helping our students to keep fit and healthy, to teaching them about sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication. Sport is also a great way to make friends, have fun, and get involved in the school community.

We offer a host of individual and team activities, which are open to all ages and abilities. There’s something for everyone, from traditional sports like football, basketball, badminton, swimming, and volleyball, to martial arts, yoga, dance, and Zumba.

Students who enjoy the thrill of friendly competition can get involved in regular House challenges, while our BIS Lionhearts compete with pride against local international schools and at FOBISIA tournaments at home and abroad.

Visual and Performing Arts
From drama and dance to painting and sculpting, we offer a range of creative activities for students to showcase their artistic talents.
Visual and performing arts

The visual and performing arts play an essential role in our students’ education, giving them the tools to think creatively, innovate, and appreciate diverse cultures and backgrounds. Research shows that children studying the arts are more proficient in reading, writing and maths, as well as being happier and more engaged.

Through our world-class performing arts programme with The Juilliard School, aspiring actors and performers learn from specialist instructors in creative suites, before stepping into the spotlight in our theatre and auditorium.

Our creative after-school activities offer a breadth of opportunities, too. Your child can paint with water colours, sculpt, sew, and produce handmade crafts. They can also construct theatrical backdrops at our set design club and enjoy traditional Vietnamese games.

Music
Both aspiring and talented musicians will thrive on our music programme, which offers a myriad of specialist opportunities.
Music

Our thriving music programme promotes cultural literacy, encourages creativity, and develops our students’ transferable skills, including critical thinking and collaboration.

Our primary instrumental programme is open to all, enabling every child to enjoy music lessons. Your child can choose from a range of instruments, including the guitar, piano, violin, and drums, which they’ll learn at weekly 35-minute sessions. Focused music lessons improve our students’ concentration, discipline, and memory skills, too, which they go on to demonstrate across the curriculum.

There’s something for everyone at our after-school clubs, whether that’s singing in a choir, playing in the school orchestra, or joining our brass band.

STEAM
Our STEAM programme will inspire your child to imagine a world of infinite possibilities, as they experiment, investigate, and solve challenges set by MIT professors.
STEAM

Inspiring curiosity through challenge and creative problem solving, our science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths (STEAM) programme – in collaboration with MIT – is an exhilarating way to learn.

Your child will think analytically, work collaboratively, and challenge the norm in our exciting STEAM Maker Space, where they’ll tackle some of the toughest scientific, technological, and engineering challenges facing the world today.

They’ll enjoy a host of co-curricular activities, too, including our Minecraft, 3D graphics, experimental science, robotics, and computer clubs.

Languages and Culture
Our vibrant and diverse international community is home to children and families from more than 30 countries, inspiring our students to develop a lifelong love of languages.
Languages and culture

Languages are an important part of the learning experience at BIS Hanoi, helping to prepare your child for success in our globalised world. Learning languages promotes international mindedness, too, by building our students’ understanding of other cultures and perspectives.

We’ll support your child to become a formidable communicator in both English and at least one other language. In 2022, 61% of our IBDP students graduated with a bilingual Diploma.

From Year 1-13, your child can learn Vietnamese, French, Spanish, and German. We offer several co-curricular activities that broaden our students’ horizons, too, including Japanese history club, Vietnamese traditional games, and basic Korean.

Global expeditions
Alongside Nord Anglia students from across the globe, our students take part in once-in-a-lifetime trips to Tanzania, Switzerland, and New York.
Global expeditions

Our incredible citizenship trip to Arusha, Tanzania teaches students about global responsibility and sustainability, and the important role we play in looking after our planet. Working with locals on a variety of projects, students develop a sense of independence, broaden their understanding of the world, and learn the importance of being part of a community.

The personal challenge expedition in Les Martinets, Switzerland, encourages our students to push themselves to their limits. Set in the beautiful Swiss Alps, students hike through the mountains and take on a series of challenges. Your child will also learn important skills – like cooking and working together under pressure – while creating treasured memories that will stay with them forever.

Every year, a handful of lucky students take part in workshops, seminars, and debates at the UN High Level Political Forum and Model UN event in New York, United States. Our students collaborate with staff, contribute to committees, and influence global leaders.

Local excursions

From day trips to galleries and museums to ice-skating and outdoor activities, there’s so much to see and do in Hanoi and beyond.

Local excursions

We organise a wide range of educational and cultural trips in the local area. Each activity is carefully planned to broaden perspectives and add a real-world element to your child’s learning.

This includes early years visits to a local supermarket to learn about food and healthy eating. Our littlest learners shop for vegetables before bringing them back to school and cooking a delicious soup. On our Year 3 trip to a local ice-skating ring, our students work as a team, help one another, and enjoy trying something new.

Older students visit The Vietnam Ethnology Museum as part of their speechwriting studies, while Year 12 and 13 visual arts students immerse themselves in the works of local and international artists at venues like the Art Vietnam Salon Gallery.

OUR SOCIAL PURPOSE

MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE

From a young age, your child will embrace our culture of supporting others, making a real difference in school, our community, and across the world.

Through hands-on, practical outreach projects – which include volunteering for the Red Cross and helping to renovate a local orphanage – our students reflect our values of integrity, care, and respect. They also demonstrate teamwork and leadership by raising money and awareness for good causes, including the Hy Vong School for Disabled Children and Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. And through The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and our partnership with UNICEF, your child will acquire a global outlook, becoming a socially responsible young citizen.
