PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS

At our private school, we believe every student should have the opportunity to participate in athletics. We offer a broad range of sports and activities, beginning from the age of four.

A healthy, active lifestyle

At the British International School of Boston, we aim to introduce students to a wide variety of sports and activities in order to emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

We focus on developing students' fitness, communication, collaboration, and skills through hard work, team effort, and leadership opportunities.

Students are encouraged to grow further by participating in our extracurricular programs, through which they can explore new activities and hone growing skills.

FITNESS FOR LIFE

At the British International School of Boston, we aim to introduce students to a wide variety of sports and activities in order to emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.

In our Early Years Program, physical activity plays a vital part in the development of the whole child. Children focus on physical development and building skills. They then move on to fun games that build the "ABCs": agility, balance, coordination, and speed.

As students progress through Lower School, they are exposed to a wide variety of activities and introduced to various sports. In this way, they begin to develop an array of life-long skills such as sportsmanship, teamwork and communication.

In Middle and High School, engagement, fun, and active participation are focal points as we nurture passion for sports and physical activity. Students continue to build their life skills: leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment are developed through a variety of opportunities, competitive and non-competitive team sports, and inter-house competitions. In our High School program, students may elect to take a Sports, Exercise, and Health Science course in addition to their core Physical Education classes.

SPORTS DAY

We host two annual sports day events: Junior Sports Day is for our Early Years and Lower School students, and Senior Sports Day for our Middle and High School students. At these events, students work together in their school Houses in a series of athletic competitions. They earn House points, build camaraderie and team spirit, and enjoy being physically active in a fun, competitive setting.

At Junior Sports Day, students are encouraged to try athletic activities they might not have tried otherwise. The event is supported by students in our Middle and High school who assist in the leadership of designated activities.

During Senior Sports Day, our Middle and High School students participate in a series of athletic competitions followed by inter-House sporting activities, including soccer, basketball and volleyball.

ATHLETIC SUCCESS

The growth of our athletics program is a focus for British International School of Boston. Our High School students compete at varsity level in the Massachusetts Bay Independent Schools League (MBIL) and the Girls Independent schools League (GIL), both run through NEPSAC. Our competitive athletic program extends down into the Middle School where we compete against a range of local schools.

Our athletic program has grown to be point where we now have Middle School sports with two squads, as well as both Varsity and Junior Varsity teams in our High School.  In 2023, both our Varsity Boys and varsity Girls Volleyball teams made it to the league’s Championship Finals!

We hold School Spirit Days each fall to celebrate the successes of all our teams and to involve everyone in building school spirit.

Please view our school calendar to see the current sports schedule.
