Northbridge Primary school STUCO and Action Squads unveil exciting plans for the year Last Friday we engaged in our mental health well-being day at Northbridge International School Cambodia, when students across the school dressed in green or purchased a green ribbon and thought about what mental health meant to them and ways in which we could help each other feel good about themselves. This was an initiative organised by the Secondary Stuco in conjunction with Secondary action teams.

In the Primary school we have been busy setting up similar opportunities for students to participate in both leadership and action both inside and outside of the classroom. This year we have separated two elements of this and established two groups under the leadership of Ms Miriam and Mr Craig.

STUCO with Ms Miriam

This is a group from Grade 1 - 5 with one representative from each class. The main focus is on leadership and student voice. The representatives work with their classmates to generate ideas and then take back to discuss in the Stuco committee. These can range from ideas for how to improve the school, changes that we can make, organise fun events and share information. Stuco will be organising Spirit week in November.

Primary Action Squad with Mr Z

The Membership to the Action Squad is completely voluntary.  Students are given the opportunity to serve the NISC community through efforts of their own creation.  Connections are sought with our PYP curriculum, whose purpose is for our students to “Take Action!”.

Members meet on a weekly basis to discuss actions they would like to take both within the walls of NISC--and beyond! Then bring their ideas to reality.

Prior Action Squad initiatives include: building school spirit while putting smiles on the faces of all walks of the Northbridge community.  Events have included: “Movember,” The “Amazing Race,” Mental Health Week Walkathon”, and NISC “Soccer 7’s.”  These efforts raise awareness of global issues and highlight the importance of service--all while serving our school community.

This year’s Action Squad will focus on issues with a greater purpose, such as the UN Global Goals, and the Global Campus--initiatives that allow us to build relationships with our Nord Anglia sisters and brothers around the globe.

This year, we are hoping to help members of our staff who’ve been affected by the recent  floods. We hope that you will join in our efforts.

Movember will soon return (Nov.23-30) This year’s campaign will feature healthy lifestyle choices. Competitions will be organized, and trophies awarded to the healthiest house.

Will it be the Elephants?, Cobras? Ibis? or Stingrays?  Tune in to find out!
