The power of our global education research

The power of our global education research - The power of our global education research

As Group Head of Education Research and Global Partnerships at Nord Anglia, I have the privilege of leading groundbreaking research that helps shape how students learn.

At its core, an exceptional education isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about empowering students to become thinkers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.

That’s why we’re working with some of the world’s top education institutions, including Boston College and Project Zero—a research centre at the Harvard Graduate School of Education—to redefine what’s possible in education.

Helping students become better thinkers with Boston College

This is where metacognition comes in.We’re helping our students understand how they learn best so that they can adapt their thinking style to thrive in any situation.

In collaboration with Boston College, our two-year global research project is helping students develop their metacognitive skills. But why does this matter? Because when students understand how they learn best, they become more confident, independent, and resilient. Metacognition really is a learning superpower.

Through real-world applications, self-reflection exercises, and hands-on learning strategies, we are embedding these critical skills into everyday lessons. This means your child is gaining the ability to adapt, analyse, and excel—no matter what challenges come their way.

Our first-year findings from 27 Nord Anglia schools are already reshaping the classroom experience, and you can explore these insights in our whitepaper Building Better Thinkers.

Bringing thinking to life with Project Zero

How do we prepare students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and innovate fearlessly?

Enter the DELTA project, our exclusive collaboration with Project Zero, a research centre at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. We are designing tailor-made Thinking Routines—proven strategies that help students express their thoughts, question ideas, and engage more deeply in their learningto support the development of Nord Anglia’s Learner Ambitions.

Learner Ambitions are skills which we believe are vital for success in and out of the classroom—creativity, curiosity, compassion, collaboration, critical thinking and commitment. This ensures that every child, in every one of our schools, is developing the intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills that will set them apart.

The impact has been remarkable so far; students who engage with thinking routines retain knowledge more effectively, approach complex problems with confidence, and become better prepared to succeed in any future they choose.

The future of education, today

At Nord Anglia, we’re not just preparing students for exams, we’re preparing them for life.

The projects I’ve described above are just a couple of the ways we’re using research to create a learning experience like no other, so, our students possess the academic results, confidence, creativity, and resilience to make their mark on the world.
