Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Secondary Campus Weekly Update - Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

It was a real highlight to see our Year 9 students enjoy the KS4/KS5 Curious Incident 2.0 production last week. My appreciation and thanks to the cast and the Drama team for their hard work in preparing and delivering this enriching experience.

Our Principals’ visit was also an opportunity for NAIS Hong Kong to gain valuable feedback and showcase the excellent practices going on around the campus. They were extremely impressed by our students’ engagement in lessons and their commitment to their learning.

On Thursday 27th February, I travel to Shanghai for the Nord Anglia Education China International Schools Conference. I will be presenting with Mrs. Rankin and Mrs. Thomasson on our excellent Teaching and Learning model, whilst sharing best practice with leaders from across the region.
Monday 3rd March is our Secondary School Sports Day at Kowloon Bay Sports Ground at 8.15am-3.30pm. Whilst I can’t possibly fly the flag for an individual House, I will be there supporting the entire spectrum of House colours throughout the day. I’m especially looking forward to seeing staff demonstrate their sporting prowess in the staff race! More information relating to the logistics of the day can be found below.

PTA Fair Reflections  – Mrs. Reid

On Saturday, the Kwun Tong campus was transformed and filled with the joyous sounds and sights of the PTA Spring Fair! From puppies to balloon models, cotton candy to giant bouncy castles, there was something for everybody and everyone was certainly having fun!

Our Secondary students were on hand to help the PTA and support the Year group tables as well as enjoy themselves with all the Fair had to offer. Here is a selection of soundbites from some of those students:

"The fair was a great success, offering a wonderful variety of activities for parents, students, and teachers. Everyone enjoyed petting the dogs, planting their own plants, browsing the book fair, and many other activities. It was a truly memorable day for all." Diyaa Y12

“What I enjoyed most was that there were so many different games that were so much fun and not all of them you had to pay for! My favorite part was meeting all the dogs that came from SK Stray Friends, and not just the dogs, the SK Stray Friends volunteer staff were all lovely too, I’d really like to get involved with them in the future!” Sophie Y7

“I enjoyed the wide range of games and unique stalls. I found the claw machines were really good fun and the games in the classrooms were unique. The food was amazing and having food at the school was convenient for me and others” Ayla Y7

“I had an absolutely amazing time at the Spring Fair yesterday. My role was helping out in the sound booth, and I enjoyed playing the sound and announcements very much! I particularly loved going around to my friends to get music, knowing that everyone would enjoy listening to it”. Marshall Y8

Y9 Taster Sessions – Miss O’Malley

It was a productive week for Year 9 as they continued to contemplate their upcoming IGCSE decisions. Students embraced a series of taster sessions in Computer Science, Global Perspectives, PE, and Business and Economics to gain a greater understanding about what these unfamiliar subjects might involve at IGCSE. Our Thursday assembly addressed some common questions from the cohort and also had special guest Mr. McIntosh explain the different Mathematics pathways open for students. We look forward to inviting Year 10 to our next assembly to share their own experiences and advice before students make their final decisions in March.

All information about IGCSE courses and the Pathways process can be found on Firefly, and the final deadline for submitting options is Friday 7th March.

This year, our students are excited to celebrate International Women’s Day in a meaningful way. The student leadership team, alongside budding journalists, is creating a magazine that celebrates the achievement of women across various fields.

The DEIB and Wellbeing student leaders are collaborating to organise a whole school assembly to celebrate the success of women in our community and beyond! This initiative aims to foster greater understanding of the importance of gender equality.

In the second set of matches against ICHK, the squad was determined to build on their success. Kyle showcased his skills in the first singles, delivering a remarkable game that ended just shy of victory at 20-22. Although the Knights faced some challenges in the second doubles, Harold shone in the first half of the second singles, keeping the ICHK second seed on their toes. Students will be registered in the stadium stands in the morning and will be dismissed from the Sports Ground at 3:30pm.

Students who do not use the school bus service should make their own way to the Kowloon Bay Sports Ground for 8:15am so that they can be registered in the stands. They will be dismissed from the venue at 3:30pm.
