Dear Parents,

At NAISAK, with our aim to promote lifelong learning in mind, we constantly seek to seize learning opportunities that are not confined to the four walls of the classroom or to a textbook, but rather, that widen the personal, social, physical or artistic horizons of our young learners. It is that time of the year where we, as part of the Global Campus Community, are in full steam ahead with a number of challenges launched. NAISAK has grown so much within the Global Campus family that the thought of the fantastic projects our youngsters will produce this year is having everyone hop up and down with impatience! There is something to cater to everyone’s interest and there is always the possibility to interact with other students from our global family of schools.

For the students who are more inclined towards Humanities and Children’s Rights, then the UNICEF challenges are just the right fit! This year, the entire world celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Children’s Rights Declaration. Ms Leah Murray and Mr Ian Coppenhall are preparing a great surprise for our students on World Children’s Day celebrated on 20 November. Please encourage your child to see their teachers and ask how they can take part. The objective is to make this day even greater, and all about our young learners.

Out of all of us, who never hoped at some point to be an artist? Who never dreamed of performing at Carnegie Hall, receiving an Oscar, playing at La Scala in Milan? Thanks to our collaboration with Juilliard, a world leader in the arts, we can be in direct contact with artists who are experts in their field, from dance to music to acting. Ms Sonia Lovemore and Mr Jaco Allers are a great source for students to explore further. Our teachers will suggest all kinds of questions that you can ask those fantastic artists to help satisfy our students’ curiosity or start paving their path to stardom. So... Tailor-made for Nord Anglia students in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) challenges are perfect for all our students gifted with a scientific and entrepreneurial mind!

The Picture of Health - Since September, Year 7 to Year 11 students have been working on the MIT project during their STEAM sessions every Sunday afternoon. This inventive project ‘The Picture of Health’ is inspired by Prof. Jim Collins’ work. In his lab, researchers combine the bioluminescence of fireflies with film from a Polaroid-style instant camera to capture the presence of micro-organisms that can cause disease. NAISAK students are trying their hand at bioengineering to invent a product, repurpose a technology, or design a new medical tool by applying their knowledge of imaging in new medical technology. This project will close on 10 April 2020.

Micro:bit challenge - Micro:bit challenges are designed in line with the UNICEF Sustainable Development Goals. In this project, the students will use Micro:bit to offer a solution to the problems associated with Global Goal 14: Life Below Water or Global Goal 15: Life On Land. The Micro:bit project was launched on 16 September and the deadline for it is Friday 28 February 2020 at 12:00.

MIT Trip - The MIT trip is planned for late March. The student will be taken to MIT for a week to participate in the activities designed for them by this world-renowned university. The trip will be offered to four students only after a ruthless selection process! Please keep an eye on the e-Newsletter and Facebook page for further details.

The English team is very excited to announce the launch of this year’s Creative Writing Competition as part of Global Campus. The project, this year, will focus on the theme of “Home” based on Margriet Ruurs’ book Stepping Stones, where students will have to produce both a 500-word written piece and a visual element. Shortlisted winners will be published in our Nord Anglia Education global, digital anthology with the chance to win signed books by Margriet Ruurs herself! The deadline is 13 December 2019, so get writing! For more information about what the project must include, please visit Mr Hawker and Mr Cropley in the English Department in the Secondary Building. We cannot wait to see what you have to offer, so please do get involved!
