Academic success across the school

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday this week we held the Sixth Form parent teacher evening. The meetings held are very important for parents and students alike, as students work through the demands of the IBDP programme and are also considering their options for higher education. It is a particular strength of these evenings that students and parents attend together, so that both are aware of key messages and parents are then able to support their children with a full understanding. During the evening, the students in Year 12 students were able to collect their IGCSE certificates and have their photographs taken with their parents. This celebration of success is an important right of passage and acknowledgement of all the hard work that each and every one of our students has put in.

We are delighted that our student’s results last year were even stronger than the year before, and in fact were a record high for the school.  Our IBDP average score was also our highest to date.

When we look at the Primary school, this theme of strong academic outcomes is reflected there. In June 2020, our students at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year 6) showed strong gains in the key areas of Reading, Writing and Maths, both compared to their own previous attainment and when compared to previous years. As a school, we are constantly seeking to find ways to reflect on and improve learning and teaching, so that each student can make the maximum progress, week by week and month by month. What I think is truly pleasing about our students attainment last year, was that for a significant proportion of time students were at home, being taught by their teachers via our Virtual School Experience, rather than face to face. Teachers went to amazing lengths to ensure that students had the best possible learning experiences and that they did not miss out on aspects of the curriculum normally covered. Parental support also helped to ensure that students got the optimum benefit from the lessons they received. The end of year results across the school are a testament to the success of our VSE, the dedication of our teachers and the hard work of our students. Well done, one and all!

Remembrance Day Service

Tomorrow, Saturday 7^th November, BIS Hanoi will be supporting the annual Remembrance Day Service, which takes place at Cua Bac Church. Our school choir will be performing ‘For the Fallen’, and one of our students, Linh Dan, will be reading ‘In Flanders Fields’. A particularly moving highlight is always the playing of the ‘Last Post’, which will be performed again this year by Mr. Jonathan Scott. The church will be open from 10.30 am, for a prompt start at 10.50 am. Please join us if you are able to attend.
