Reuse, Reduce, Recycle – Make the world a better place!

Dear Parents,

Green Week has given us chance to reflect on our own habits and the potential effects on our environment. Using less disposable objects and thinking carefully about recycling and reusing is very important if we wish to really demonstrate that we are global citizens. At BIS this week, children across the school have been busy planting fruit trees and flowers in our organic gardens both in our main campus and at the Early Years Centre. Working together, we aim to make our school a healthier place to study.

In addition to working in our BIS garden, children have started to look carefully at our usage of plastic and alternatives have been presented for times when we decorate and promote events with balloons and laminated materials. In future we aim to use paper and natural materials as decorations in addition to reducing the use of disposable plates, cups and cutlery.

Next year, BIS will introduce a new PE and House t-shirt to replace our existing ones currently worn as part of our uniform. These have been designed by our Secondary students and are an exciting upgrade. We don’t want families to throw away their old t-shirts however as we have an amazing recycling project underway. I encourage all students to bring their old uniforms into school to be upcycled!

Mike Gatting OBE

It was a great honour to welcome a cricketing legend to BIS Hanoi on Monday. Mike Gatting played first class cricket for England from 1977 to 1995 and experienced success as the captain of the team from 1986 to 1988. Mike inspired our students through the delivery of some excellent coaching sessions and persevered through the Hanoi heat to ensure all students in upper Primary and lower Secondary had a chance to play. Thank you, Mike – it is always fantastic to learn from talented professionals!

Next Week

All parents are welcome to visit our campus next week for 2 special events. On Wednesday, the KS3 students have  an amazing art exhibition to guide parents around between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. This coincides with the Year 6 disco so Year 6 parents may wish to visit the exhibition before collecting their children.

The second event, a performance of ‘Alice’, is happening on Thursday. The students from the Drama ECA are keen to share their skills in this lively retelling of a famous story so please come along to support the cast and enjoy an evening of entertainment.
