On 22 - 24 March, BIS Hanoi students attended the third annual MUN Conference hosted by Northbridge International School Cambodia with the theme' Redefining Authority'.

Northbridge International School, Cambodia Model United Nations is under way. After and early start, students made the short jump over to Cambodia.

The conference began with a rousing opening speech by the UK Ambassador to Cambodia, Tina Redshaw. The focus of the conference is ‘Redefining Authority.’ Ambassador Redshaw invited students to contemplate authority: How it is, and how it should be implemented.

Students made their way to their respective committees to begin opening speeches.

Tomorrow, they will continue to lobby and begin to debate resolutions.

Day 2 and students were working hard at negotiating and persuading another six delegates to co-sign their resolution. The directors office was a hub of activity as students sought approval for their resolution to be debated. By midday, delegates in each of the committees were underway making speeches in favour, or against resolutions, asking pertinent Points of Information (POIs), advocating amendments and finally voting.

MUN requires students to represent the values and beliefs of the country and government it represents. This can be particularly challenging if those values conflict with your personal opinions. However, BIS Hanoi students demonstrated their maturity and showcased the depth of their research in representing Indonesia, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Ethiopia, Togo and Kazakhstan.

After a busy day in debate, students had a relaxing evening meal and a fun quiz to finish up the evening.
