The House Maths Event was an event for Year 7 to Year 10. Each year group came together for 50 minutes to take part in an Oil Trader Game.
They worked together in small teams, over 6 rounds, with the aim of making the highest percentage profit.
Students had to use mathematical thinking to predict what would happen to the market price of oil in response to updates on breaking news. Students had to decide whether they should buy more oil or sell their current stock.
It was exciting for the students to see if their predictions were right and how this impacted their team’s value. The activity allowed students to apply their mathematical skills to a real-world situation.
Students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed using their maths in a different way.
Dalat won every competition, and so were clearly the best stock traders overall!
