Today, we celebrated the extraordinary achievements of three BIS Hanoi students: Shin Sang Yun (Year 12), Hoang Hai Ha (Year 11) and Vu Hang Giang (Year 11).
Cambridge International awarded the three students the highest mark in the world for their IGCSE Mathematics papers, which the students presented for in May 2018.
Sang Yun joined BIS Hanoi in 2017 and, with the encouragement and support of BIS Hanoi, opted to take 8 IGCSEs in a single year. Normally IGCSEs are studied over two years. Sang Yun refused to accept time as a limitation; instead, he went on to achieve 7 A* grades and one A, including the highest mark in the world in Mathematics.
Hai Ha and Hang Giang were part of a BIS Hanoi Year 10 accelerated Mathematics class taught by Mrs. Fernandes. Their ambition drove them to present for IGCSE Mathematics after just one year of study. They entered the exams that students normally spend two years studying for and achieved the highest mark in the world, despite global competition from the other students entering these internationally recognised Mathematics papers. Hai Ha and Hang Giang have already identified a new target and will present for IGCSE Additional Mathematics in May 2019.
